M23 Flail

Initially designed as part of the Interchangeable Combat Weapons Program the M23 was initially slated to become the M25 Cutlass before members of Imperial High Command realized that soldiers would prefer a shinier weapon with less kick. Though admittedly the money "gifted" to the members of Acquisition had a part to play in the decision. Therefore the M23 Flail was chosen for specialized units while the M25 Cutlass became the standard rifle of the Imperial Military.

Upon hearing this the designers of the Flail decided to change the internal mechanism in order to quickly allow the rifle to switch from heavy thirty bolt shots to the lighter fifty bolt shots. The cost being stopping power and range but the fifty bolt shots became a preferred choice, especially with the attachments that came along with said weapons.
